"Subject is important to me. Rather than choosing it to convey some existing emotion or meaning, the subject is usually the reason for the painting. The challenge is to make the paint become the place or object and for the painter to disappear.

I have drawn and painted the shoreline since childhood; particularly the view from the water to the shore - the magic sensation of making landfall.  I have explored many of these marginal landscapes and collected many objects which often find their way into pictures. Over time I have developed a particularly strong bond with the islands close to home. When working I have a sense of dissolving into the subject.

There is enough pain and darkness in the world. My imagination has no trouble summoning a nightmare, they are all around us. I am drawn to places and objects which provide a refuge of calm and stillness - the perfect anchorage. Painting these subjects is a gesture of gratitude".

'Moon Point, Fraser Island' was created by Ralph especially for this fund-raising programme.

Ralph has just concluded another major exhibition at Philip Bacon Galleries.  This Ralph Wilson art print shows his incredible technique and sense of reality at its best.
