After winning the Italian Travelling Scholarship in 1957 and spending time in Rome, Lawrence Daws lived and worked in London and travelled extensively on the Continent, in India, Mexico, the USA and Canada.
In 1961 his work was included in the influential exhibition 'Recent Australian Painting' curated by the Whitechapel Gallery, London, and was also included in the Paris Biennale des Jeunes, Paris. Lawrence' work was also included in the 1980 Images of Ourselves at the Tate Gallery. Since then he has exhibited widely both in Australia and abroad.
In 2000 - 2001 his work was the subject of a major survey exhibition curated by both the University of Queensland Art Museum and the Brisbane City Gallery. His work is represented in major collections both in Australia and abroad and he is represented by Philip Bacon Galleries.
